We’re Joining the ICWC – Here’s What It Means for Our Community

Today marks an exciting milestone in The Boulder Bunker’s journey. We’re proud to announce our membership in the Independent Climbing Wall Collective (ICWC), a partnership that strengthens both our local climbing community and connects us to a nationwide network of independent climbing facilities.
What is the ICWC?
The Independent Climbing Wall Collective represents the heart of grassroots climbing in the UK. Unlike large commercial chains, ICWC members are independent, community-focused climbing walls that prioritize authentic climbing experiences, local community building, and the pure joy of the sport.
Founded on the principle that independent climbing walls offer something unique – personal service, community connection, and climbing experiences crafted with genuine passion – the ICWC brings together like-minded facilities across the country.
Why We’re Excited to Join
Since Alan took over The Boulder Bunker three years ago, we’ve always believed in the power of community. We’re not just a climbing gym; we’re a hub where friendships are forged, challenges are conquered, and the climbing community thrives. Joining the ICWC aligns perfectly with these values.
As Boulder Shack eloquently put it in their recent announcement, independent walls “offer something that the big chains simply can’t replicate.” We couldn’t agree more. Our escape room, digital gaming area, cozy café, and personalized approach to youth coaching are all examples of how independent facilities can innovate and serve their communities in unique ways.

Starting September 1st, every Boulder Bunker member gains access to:
